A new baby in the family! How exciting! There are many things to consider at this joyous time in your family's life. Baptism is the primary spiritual consideration for Christians of the Roman Catholic faith.
Question: What is involved in Baptism Preparation?
Answer: When families desire to have their child welcomed into the faith community through the sacrament of Baptism, a period of preparation is required to familiarize them with the ceremony of Baptism as well as the commitment they are undertaking to raise their child in the Roman Catholic faith. Parents and godparents are required to attend the Baptism Preparation.

The whole process (timing) may vary in each parish community so it would be a good idea to start it before the baby is born.
CALLED TO WITNESS AND PROCLAIM
Download PDFCatechesis is about much more than passing on information; it adds the element of formation, leading, hopefully, to transformation. The role of the parish catechist is to help parents in building those households of faith. We do this by including families in everything we do. This is important whether the parish offers on-going catechesis or sacramental preparation. Involving the family acknowledges the fact that faith is not lived in the parish “classroom”, but that faith is lived at home. It supports and encourages parents in crossing that bridge from wanting religion for their children to becoming willing and active participants in the process. Each parish will decide how to include parents in the formation process, remembering that this process is for the adults and the children. The approach taken will depend on the physical re sources available (number of rooms), the available personnel resources (number of catechists), and on the amount of time that our parish volunteers have to offer.
